On a trip to South Asia, my colleague and I smuggled Bibles into a country that persecuted Christians and never allowed the Bible to be brought in or published. We knew it was God’s desire to give His Word to people in their heart language, so we took a risk and stuffed fifty Bibles into our luggage.

Sitting in a small circle with others from my DTS team, I was beginning to get a little uncomfortable. We were asked to sit quietly and “hear” from God about something we were to do and somewhere to go for our outreach. I was a little nervous.

Repeatedly punching my steering wheel and reminding God of how expertly He had crafted my middle finger had kind of become my thing. My west-Texan-pastors-kid bubble had officially popped. My former modicum of faith had been crushed under the weight of my cynicism, self pity, and reclusiveness, and I seriously wanted to die. Needless to say, my first (and as it turned out, my only)...

During my time in a small fishing village named Naknek, I met a young lady whom I’ll never forget. We had gone to this particular home to actually connect with a young man I had met on the streets a few days prior, yet God’s plan was to connect my heart with this girl instead and become part of the rescue operation in her life.

Six years ago, our family found ourselves living life the only way we knew how. We owned a business, worked really hard, lived in the home of our dreams, and were very involved in our local church. However, like many Americans, we had tons of debt and the job was literally killing me.
