Be an AgTech Missionary

Written by Tyler Tom | 20 Feb 2019

Growing up in Chicago and moving to a little town in Texas was quite the change! During my two training schools at YWAM Tyler, I discovered in a deeper way who God is and how to have a relationship with Him!

It was during my Discipleship Training School (DTS) and School of Evangelism (SOE) I got a little taste of AgTech. I had no clue about anything related to agriculture honestly, but I knew how to work! After seeing the practical ways we can help people all over the world in our AgTech Department, I couldn’t help but want to grasp more!

Since joining the team, I have been learning and expanding my knowledge on all kinds of things! Who would have thought that a kid from the south side of Chicago would go from making hotdogs in the city to working gardens in the country with the goal to change the world! 😉

In AgTech, which stands for Agriculture and Applied Technologies, our goal is to practically improve the level of life in different places all over the world! There’s no telling how many ways we can help!

Currently, I manage our Urban Agricultural Branch, which means I conduct research and practice ways we can farm and improve life within urban communities! I’m in the process of making a model rooftop garden, which will have a good supply to feed a family of 4-6 people daily. Imagine, all this within just a little area on a rooftop.

It's exciting work! Come join us!!

~ Grant Sylvester, a staff member and world changer at YWAM Tyler

Agriculture is a significant part of our mission at YWAM Tyler. Teams are sent out yearly to help communities develop in numerous ways. Through creating aquaponic systems, planting gardens, building brick ovens, and more, people are experiencing the love of Jesus in everyday tangible ways.

We are thankful for all that God is doing through our AgTech Department. Grant came to YWAM Tyler to get to know God more. In the process, he acquired new skills and is now serving as a missionary training others. We invite you to come and do the same.

Get trained to make a remarkable impact in communities around the world. Sign up for the next Discipleship Training School (DTS) and take the AgTech elective. You won't regret it.

So this is what it feels like to hang out with the AgTech team on outreach!

Nathan Fair is the director and training leader for our AgTech department. We have launched our first AIMS (Agriculture in Missions School) this year with the desire to train other missionaries to develop agricultural schools in their communities. The AIMS school starts Fall of 2019! Message us on Facebook to Learn More
