Creating a Home Away From Home | Family DTS

Written by Tyler Tom | 10 Jan 2020

Josh Barnes and his wife Faraday came to YWAM Tyler, Texas, for the Family DTS. They came with five kids in tow: three boys⎼12, 11, and 9 and two girls⎼7 and 4. Living in community, diving into their relationship with Jesus, and growing stronger as a family was just the beginning of their experience.

As part of the 5-month training, their family, along with others from the Family DTS, traveled to Mazatlan, Mexico, for their outreach.

We always say there's just nothing like a YWAM Tyler outreach to give you God's heart for the nations. This trip proved that to be true.

Our friends at YWAM Mazatlan made this cool testimony video of the Barnes family when they were working on a Homes of Hope project during their outreach.

Their son Josiah puts it beautifully in the video when he says, "To live out, to be like a Christian is to give of yourself freely — your time, your effort, your money, everything … Being a Christian is letting go and being unselfish and giving yourself to the people who really need it."

The Barnes family, and the other 12 families from our July Family DTS, have the most wonderful stories of God's redemptive work in their families.

Families can do missions. If you're ready to do something different with your family and experience a radical life-changing discipleship process for you and your kids, ask us about our next training school for families. You'll be so glad you asked.
