YWAM Tyler Loves Their Teachers!

Written by Amy Fish | 11 May 2018

Go ahead, call me biased, but I believe YWAM Tyler has some of the best teachers out there. Not only do they impart Truth, but they also unleash Love. C.S. Lewis once said, "The task of the modern educator is not to cut down jungles, but to irrigate deserts." Our teachers value each student and believe in the more that God has for them. They're willing to plow the weathered soil of hearts to help people discover real and lasting freedom. Their love for Jesus is infectious, and I'm thankful for the investment each one has made here. During #TeacherAppreciationWeek, we're recognizing a few of the many awesome teachers God has brought our way.

Wes Chapman said this during SST, and I've never forgotten it!  "Follow your tears because they'll lead you to your destiny."  Nehemiah was emotionally wrecked when he learned Jerusalem had fallen. He wept, fasted, & prayed for days until he understood why God had so burdened his heart. Nehemiah was set apart for a specific task. He was consecrated. It's so precious how God can use those emotional responses to call us into our destiny. Jesus set himself apart so that we might be set apart as well! Be consecrated.๐Ÿ’œ

In DTS, I had a teacher named Don Stephens (bottom row, kneeling in the blue shirt) who taught on the Kingdom of God. His teachings were animated and fun. Something he said stood out to me: Everything matters. Even the mundane little things like picking up trash and making the bed. When we do these well, we reflect our amazing God! To this day, I am convicted if I don't make my bed every morning. ๐Ÿ˜€

"And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works..."- Hebrews 10:24

Ed Sinke is like Jesus in the way he adds value to people by speaking destiny over them. He loves everyone so much that he won't let you live less than the destiny God has for you.

I believe that the best quality a teacher can have is to represent Jesus to the classroom, and all of our teachers here at YWAM Tyler do a great job at doing that. I want to thank Jรถsh Langer. I really appreciate the passion and emotion he uses when he preaches at Family Night and teaches about worship in training schools. Thank you for representing Jesus in the classroom and representing His heart when we come to worship God.

The teaching on faith & finances is a favorite of mine at YWAM Tyler. Fear and worry have plagued my mind far too many times when it comes to money. I'm thankful for Deonn McDowell's approach and perspective (pictured above in the blue shirt). Her insight on scripture was refreshing, and her relationship with God tangible. I'll never forget her stories of inviting God into the decision making process of her finances. She emphasized the importance of just doing what the Lord says and trusting Him with the end result. I never want to bow to the spirit of mammon ever again!

The greatest lie we will ever believe is that God is withholding something good from us. When Larry Allen referenced this in the classroom, it would have been the perfect moment for a mic-drop! Isnโ€™t it true though? One reason I wrestle with trust is thinking God is holding something back from me that I actually should have. This was just one nugget of truth which has stayed with me from the classroom, to outreach, and now life!
