God has brought over 70,000 Afghan refugees to our doorstep. They are dispersed in seven different locations. Possibly 10,000 new arrivals on their way. Preparing them for life in America is an arduous task.
Fear, confusion, and abandonment are all real emotions these refugees are facing on top of little or no fluency in English. Can you imagine how the basic ways of life in America are completely strange to those coming from a war-torn country?
We caught up with John Weaver, who is connected with a refugee center. He hauled his whole family there this week to minister to the most vulnerable. You need to listen to this!
After living for years in Afghanistan, John speaks fluent Dari and his family bring hope to the hopeless. John was gracious enough to snap a few photos, and send us a few voice messages we've put in this blog. Now you can understand what's happening right in our backyard.
You may be wondering how can you help? Many organizations are raising funds right now meet some of the basic needs these refugees have.
At YWAM Tyler, we are fortunate to have feet on the ground with trusted partners to get funds to where they actually are needed most.
1. A gift of any size helps refugees coming to America who have absolutely nothing to start a life with their family here in the USA. Basic things like rent deposits, cooking supplies, and setting up a house can be overwhelming. The relationships we are forming with refugees by helping them with basic needs opens the doors to share a real heart-felt Gospel message.
2. Christians and ministry leaders still in Afghanistan need help. We have secured a way to get funds into the country to help the believers in this incredibly challenging time. Just getting to the market to buy food can have it's own challenges when you're trying to be discreet. Please consider giving to our brothers and sisters, and equip them to continue to live for Jesus in their communities.
