Two Are Better Than One

By Amy Fish on 25 May 2018

“Lord, you know all my desires and deepest longings. My tears are liquid words and you can read them all.” (Ps. 35:9 TPT)

With my knees plastered to the ground and my forehead grazing the floor, tears soaked the tattered carpet beneath me. Words weren’t needed. My tears said it all. Why was life so hard? Would things ever change? Overwhelmed, I honestly just wanted to give up.

Then my friends started to pray.

I was on an outreach in Los Angeles with my YWAM school, when the difficult phone call came. As I wept, my fellow classmates prayed. Passionate pleadings echoed in the Almighty’s ear that afternoon. One by one my friends interceded. They reminded God of His ability to redeem. They cried out to Him for mercy. With their declarations of God’s unending love, hopelessness ceased. Their prayers lifted me out of the well of darkness I'd fallen into and surrounded me with empowering light. By the end of that prayer time, peace and confidence had returned. Nothing was too difficult for my Lord. His wonder-working ways were not done in my family’s life. All He asked of me was to believe. So with a renewed faith in my Maker, I got off the floor with my head held high.

I’m thankful to have been in a group of people who understood the power of prayer that day. They didn’t judge or try to problem solve. They simply prayed. There are tremendous blessings to be found in community.

"Two are better than one . . . if either of them falls down, one can help the other up.” (Eccles. 4:9-10).

"A person standing alone can be attacked and defeated, but two can stand back-to-back and conquer. Three are even better, for a triple-braided cord is not easily broken." (Eccles. 4:12)

"For where two or three gather in my name, there I am with them.” (Matt. 18:20)

If you long for community, I want to invite you to do a Discipleship Training School at YWAM Tyler. Get to know God in a classroom full of others seeking to know God. Then stay on and do a School of Evangelism, and discover your unique part in the Great Commission. While here, difficulty might come knocking at your door, but don’t worry! You won't be alone!

Almost 25 years ago, God called Amy to go and make disciples. From the inner cities of America to the barren bush of Africa, sharing the love of Jesus has been her passion. In 2006, she completed her YWAM DTS in Chiang Rai, Thailand. She's been married for the last 32 years to her best friend and is honored to be the mom of four beautiful children. She's a huge fan of playing games with her family, loving on her Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, and sipping on coffee while reading an inspirational book.
