I was sitting in my DTS classroom, my head wrapped in thoughts of a family circumstance that was happening. We had teaching on Lordship and Surrender, which was timed perfectly for what I was struggling with. I had a sense of fear and lack of control over the situation, but throughout the class, God kept reminding me that He has control of the unknown and that I can trust and surrender it all to Him.
We had a Creative Writing class that week as well which led me to write a song about surrendering the worry, anxiety, and scenarios of the situation to God. I wrote it that week and sang it for the class the day it was due.
God has shown me through this song how to surrender on a deeper level in so many other circumstances since writing it.
Verse 1
I don't know what to do
Feeling lost and so confused
About the choice, I have to make
Give me Your wisdom
Give me faith
Give me faith
Chorus
Here I lay my rights down
Father let Your will be done
You hold control of the unknown
I’m done fighting scenarios
Verse 2
I don’t know what to do
Except fix my eyes on you
Every day a little harder
But You remind me I'm Your daughter
And You hold the way
So, I’ll walk in faith
Verse 3
Now I know what to do
Put my hope alone in You
With every choice I have to face
Give me wisdom
Give me faith
I’ll walk in faith
Surrender is hard but so necessary. I’ve found that complete surrender to God's perfect love is the best thing in every circumstance. It can be hard to know what to do sometimes when thousands of scenarios run through your head. It is easy to slip into fear which leads to feeling like we need to have control over each situation. The weight of everything completely lifts off when we surrender our lives to His Lordship which makes room in our hearts for God to cover us with His perfect peace as we trust Him to move and work things out according to His will.
