ONE DREAM GOD DIDN'T LET ME FORGET
In 2013, I attended a Season of Service and Training (SST), a summer camp for teens at YWAM Tyler. One afternoon, we teamed up with multiple staff members to help with their different roles on the campus.
Some of us helped in the kitchen, some in the Ag-Tech training area and some of us in the Hospitality department. 😳
I got to help in Hospitality! This area of YWAM manages events, provides refreshments, and makes sure all guests and visitors feel welcome in any way possible. On that day, it meant making cookies...
I had so much fun making cookies and hanging out with the "YWAMers" in Hospitality. When I looked out the kitchen window, the sky was a clear blue, the fields were covered in golden hues of grass and pine trees stretched high into the sky. The peace I felt was unexplainable, and I thought, "You know, I could see myself working in this place one day. I love it here."
After a few years passed and I graduated from high school, I came back for YWAM Tyler's missionary training schools. That memory of looking out the window was completely off my radar. Totally forgotten.
I never planned on this, but during my time in the training schools, I felt like I was supposed to come back on staff. I graduated from the training schools and came back in August of 2017. YWAM Tyler asked me to work in Hospitality and I said "Yes." (Yay, cookies!)
I walked down to the Hospitality area and caught a glance out of that same window. My original thought from SST slammed back into me, “I could definitely see myself here one day.” I couldn’t believe it! God remembered my dream even though I had totally forgotten it.
God is so much more than a genie who grants wishes but this reminds me of a scene from The Greatest Showman. The dad brings home the parts and builds a wishing machine for his daughter’s birthday. He says:
“This is a wishing machine. You tell it your wishes and it keeps them safe until they come true. Even if you forget them, they are always there.” ⎼P.T. Barnum, The Greatest Showman
What a reflection of God’s heart! God is faithful to bring your desires and passions to life.
“Which of you, if your son asks for bread, will give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a snake? If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him!” Matthew 7:10-11
